The Gold medal is given to companies in the top 5% of the 130,000 companies evaluated by EcoVadis.
The evaluation is based on performance within four categories: Environment, Ethics, Labor, Human Rights, Sustainable Procurement. The medal is given based on a percentile rank of a company that is calculated across all companies in all industries, not per industry.
