New system to recycling microfibers
In close collaboration with Nordisk Microfiber (NMF), ABENA has introduced a new recycling system for cloths and mops made from microfiber. The system is called TAKE BACK.
Testing New Technologies
In Växjö, Sweden, we are testing a technology that optimizes the airflow from our ventilation system.
Approaching circularity - Paper made from milk cartons
At ABENA we are advancing circularity by turning waste into resources. Our paper category, T3 Natural Paper is made entirely from recycled Tetra Pak milk cartons.
Spreading Joy and Care
People feel lonely every day, and this feeling can be especially strong during festive seasons. As part of our social responsibility efforts, ABENA Finland organized activities to spread joy through acts of care and connection.
Repair your broken cardboard box
In May 2022, ABENA started using stickers to repair broken cardboard boxes.
Redesigning the Thermal Jacket
In Denmark, regions and hospitals have a strong focus on reducing waste that is sent for incineration. This has led to a demand for products that can be recycled.
Recycling the Core
In 2024, we acquired a Core Cleaning Machine, which allows us to separate waste cores from tissue and PE used in the production of laminate and protective sheets.

Approaching circularity - Reusing single-use textiles at hospitals
ABENA is tackling the challenge of residual waste in healthcare through an innovative pilot project in Denmark. By exploring the reuse of disposable textiles from hospitals, we aim to increase circularity and transform waste into new raw materials, while maintaining the high hygiene standards required in the sector.
Changing to LED
Throughout 2023, ABENA is replacing all lamps in the warehouse and production facilities in Denmark.
Optimized palletizing improve costs and climate impact - 80 trucks a year saved
In Aabenraa, Denmark, ABENA’s production facility has just finished a successful pallet optimization project. Now, economic and environmental benefits are gained by optimizing product packaging. In fact, last year, the same amount of products were shipped in 80 fewer containers for one of ABENA’s customers. That saved the customer 4% in the landed cost price.
20 years of eco-labelled incontinence products
ABENA’s incontinence products have been labelled with the coveted ecolabel for more than 20 years. Today, 80% of ABENA’s incontinence products are labeled with the Nordic Swan Eco-label as well as 100% of our raw materials for these products.

Verifying products with third-party certificates
At ABENA, we have great ambitions to be our customers’ most trusted supplier. We therefore believe in a transparent business conduct and we use independent third-party certifications to document our results - 16 certifications document our own production.
Bringing Ecolabeled Products Closer to Customers
In April 2024, ABENA A/S became members of the Network for Ecolabeled Procurement, facilitated by Ecolabelling Denmark.
Alternative packaging with a reduced impact
To limit the use of nature’s resources, our incontinence products and Bambo Nature baby diapers come in one of the following two packaging alternatives to virgin plastic.
Achieving EcoVadis Gold
In December 2023, our subsidiary in France was awarded the EcoVadis Gold Medal for our work with sustainability management performance and continuous improvement in CSR practices.
20 years with the UN Global Compact
In November 2022, we marked our 20th year as a signatory to the United Nation’s Global Compact (UNGC).
Ma Petite Planète
In 2024, we carried out 1,089 challenges related to environmental care as part of the global initiative - Ma Petite Planète.
Teamwork for the Sustainable Development Goals
In March 2023, bees, bird nesting boxes, insect hotels, apple trees, and currant bushes moved into ABENA Germany, Zörbig location.
Pink October
Each year, our French colleagues participate in “Pink October”, a global campaign to promote early detection, support research, and honor those affected by breast cancer.
Transforming the Diaper System
In March 2024, we joined forces with the University of Southern Denmark, Design School Kolding, Aarhus and Odense municipalities, and Odense Renovation to uncover the possibility of making Denmark's diaper system more circular by 2030.
Reducing Emissions from Distribution
In 2023, we cut CO2 reductions from distribution to customers in Germany by 2.38 tons.
