Paper Solutions for the Food Industry

Paper has many functions in the food industry, from cleaning and hand drying to washroom necessities. At ABENA, you can find everything you need for your food production and employees' washroom breaks. With our paper solutions and expert knowledge, we can help you optimize food safety and hygiene in your facility as well as minimize paper consumption.

How can you minimize paper consumption?

Paper types and dispensers have different uses, meaning some are more efficient for cleaning while others work better for handwashing. Here are some tips to help reduce your employees’ paper usage:

Choose Z- or W-folded paper towels for hand wiping

Towel sheets folded in a V-shape are often perceived as small because they only have one fold. Therefore, people tend to take more than one or two paper towels to dry their hands. In contrast, Z- and W-folded towel sheets unfold when pulled out of the dispenser, which gives the user a feeling that one or two sheets are sufficient for thorough drying.

Use centerfeed dispensers for surface wiping

If you use centerfeed dispensers for hand wiping, we recommend switching to paper sheets or an autocut dispenser. Centerfeed dispensers typically cut 6 to 7 feet of paper, which is perfect for cleaning tasks but can be excessive if used in connection with hand wiping. Using paper sheets or an autocut dispenser, you can reduce usage to approximately 1.5 to 2.5 feet, which equates to two or three sheets of paper.

By following these tips, you can make maintaining a hygienic facility less resource-intensive.

Make hygienic practices straightforward

With folded paper towels you can minimize the risk of contamination.

Both V-, Z-, and W-folded paper towels engage with the next sheet, meaning when your employees pull a paper towel from the dispenser, the next sheet is pulled free. This way, no one touches the next piece of paper or the dispenser itself, minimizing the risk of spreading harmful micro-organisms in your food production.

Enhance your food safety with detectable paper

At ABENA, we understand that it is important that no paper is lost in production, as this would compromise food safety.

In our assortment for food industries, you will find blue-colored paper, as this color is easily detectable if any paper gets lost in production by accident. Therefore, choosing blue paper instead of white paper provides an added layer of security because you can quickly identify and address any accidental contamination.

Choose the right materials for your needs

Depending on the paper's purpose, some materials may be better to use than others. In our assortment you will find:

  • Cellulose: This material is very absorbent, which makes it perfect for drying your hands in food industries. Afterall, it is important to dry your hands thoroughly to reduce risk of transferring bacteria to food and ensure the disinfectants work properly.
  • Nonwoven: This material is perfect for tougher cleaning or wiping cases. With its high absorbency, thickness, and generally large size per sheet, you can effectively and conveniently clean larger surfaces.
  • Recycled: Is using responsible materials part of your company's strategy? Then the recycled fiber material may be for you. However, notice this material does not have the same absorption ability as for example cellulose. This is because the fibers have been shortened throughout the recycle phase. e up to food industry standards.
