Guide: Clean Floors in 5 Steps

In every hospitality establishment, there is a large footfall daily. This requires high standards for cleaning and maintenance of the floors in order to keep a clean, hygienic and welcoming look.

Cleaning floors can easily become a time-consuming task, whether you are cleaning a large hotel, a restaurant or another hospitality establishment. Particularly exposed areas are lobbies, restaurant areas and the bathrooms. That is why it is important to consider how you and your employees manage floor washing in effective way.
Below, you will find suggestions from ABENA’s cleaning experts for proper and efficient floor washing. Use them to implement your own standardized floor cleaning methods, or use them as inspiration for your own cleaning guidelines.

1. The first step is to determine the right detergent for the task. Choosing the right detergent for washing your floor is important in order to get the best result. Be aware of what types of floor you are going to clean, and remember to align this with the detergent, you choose. Often, a multi-purpose or all-purpose cleaner product is a good choice.

2. When you have chosen the detergent, it is time for the actual cleaning: Fill your bucket with the amount of water that fits the cleaning task. Read the instruction on the product to decide how detergent to dose per liter water.

3. In another bucket, place the amount of mops you are going to use upright in the bucket. Add half the prepared water to the bucket. Turn the mops around and add the rest of the water. By using this method, you ensure that the entire mop absorbs the water, which ensure a better result when cleaning. After 3-5 minutes, the mops are ready for use. If you use mops with Velcro, turn the mops around, so the Velcro faces up. This makes your work procedure faster.

4. Depending on the level of dirt and the type of floor and mop, wash 25-35 m2 of the floor with one mop. Be aware always to check how dirty your mop becomes to maintain a perfect cleaning standard.

5. When you are done using the mop, put the dirty mop in the laundry bag and bring a new mop into use.
